This strategy involves intentionally observing student activities to evaluate learning and engagement. Every teacher is constantly observing their students during different stages of a learning process. A typical structure for a lesson would be to start with the warm up activity, that ideally would lead up to to the objectives of the lesson. A Teacher typically would present or model the material or applies other strategies to relate information to students and then would gradually release students into group or independent activities. To wrap up a class I like to take a poll on how students feel about achieving the objective for the lesson. 
I've recorded one lesson, where I felt the engagement was lacking. Students were engaged during practice activities, but lacked focus during my presentation, some students were sneaking peeks at their phones or other devices. After watching this video I was able to identify the areas of improvement for my instruction and classroom management. My delivery was lacking student's involvement. For my next lesson I've put together a series of intentional questions  and hooks to better capture their interest and allow for the ownership of their learning. 
My lesson plan was changed to include a research piece, students were given a problem to consider and  guided to the pre-selected resources to help solve the problem. One of the resources was my 4 min video that demonstrated the skill they needed to master. After remote teaching last year I have quite a few video resources I've created for my classes. Students liked the opportunity to learn at their own pace and were more engaged. I was also more available for one on one help. 
After spending time on solving the problem we had a discussion on what went well and where we still need to improve. I asked students to share tips on  learning the skill they've discovered during the process. Rest of my lesson was completed in a similar fashion. Students were much more engaged.
