As a classroom teacher I am always looking for ways to engage my students with their learning. Since starting my educational program at Indiana State University Southeast, to become a technology instructional coach, I've learned about ISTE standards for Students and Teachers. The ISTE Standards for Students are designed to empower student voice and ensure that learning is a student-driven process. I will not be diving into standards in this post you can learn about them at iste.org. The main focus of this post is on how to use goal setting strategies with my students to improve learning outcomes.
In my search for goal setting ideas, my first stop was to check my professional learning networks on twitter. Here Ms. Tiger's post caught my attention.
Goal trackers can be helpful to students to set goals and track their progress towards those goals.
Goal tracking app should also break down your ambitious goals into smaller tasks. This way, you can work towards your ambitious goals in increments instead of trying to reach them all at once and not getting the best results. I've decided to give it a try and create weekly goals template for my Algebra 1 class. Here students are supposed to create their individual goals for the week and track their progress. My goal is to increase student's ownership of their work and also reflect on gaps they need to work on as individual learners. ClickUp makes it easy to organize and track student's progress, I loved the available features as well as easy to navigate layout. I plan on trying this activity at the end of the term, but I am planning to use it on more consistent basis next term. It would also be useful to map student's way though the course. Here are some more Goal Setting Resources I've found helpful: Goal Setting Podcast and a short video below.
